Cheap Foreign Labour

Mine Host calculates the minimum cost to the employer of hiring a 457 visa holder to be (roughly) $75,000 per annum.

If anybody thinks the cost is less, Mine Host defies them to prove it. (in practice, not in theory).

If anybody states the cost of a 457 visa holder is significantly less than $75,000 per annum, Mine Host has two very accurate things to say about such a person:
1/. The person saying this has never employed a 457 visa holder.
2/. The person saying this has never employed a 457 visa holder.

It is a good point you make. With the Government proposing to add further costs to Employers wanting to recruit using the various Visas, these are some current areas that Employers are liable to pay for:-

$250 Visa Application Charge Per Visa Applicant
$60 Nomination Charge Per Visa Applicant
$285 Sponsorship Charge Once off every two years per Company
? Ensure that the cost of return travel for an employee (and accompanying family member) is met to return them to their home country
? Pay all medical or hospital expenses for an employee (and accompanying family member) for treatment in a public hospital (other than expenses that are met by health insurance or reciprocal health care arrangements)
this undertaking continues until all expenses are paid
? Repay the Australian Government for money it spends as a result of the employee's stay in Australia
these costs may include those relating to locating and detaining the employee (and accompanying family member) if they become unlawful, removing them from Australia and processing any application that they make for a protection visa
this undertaking continues until all costs are paid.
$47,350 Minimum Annual Salary Level (38 Hour Week) for Schedule A Occupations = $43,440 plus 9% Super
$64,833 Minimum Annual Salary Level (38 Hour Week) for Schedule B Occupations = $59,480 plus 9% Super
? Use a Migration Agent to lodge Company Sponsorship Visa
? Use a Migration Agent to lodge each Applicant Sponsorship Visa
? Overseas travel for interviews and testing
? Pay overseas recruitment agencies and government fees
? Pay for medical tests and chest xrays for each applicant
? Pay for IELTS - International English Language Testing System for each applicant

Steve - you are presuming that you actually pay them.

Take the route others have taken. Keep 'em locked up in a shed at the back of the pub and only let them out to work. This is while you are making them pay back what it cost you to bring them over here.
